Troubleshoot teleprompter tracking and pace
What voice tracking measures, how off-script recovery behaves, and what to try when the stage lags or stalls.

How tracking behaves by design
- The stage advances when it matches the words you speak, and waits when you pause. Silence is not a fault.
- Going off script is expected: improvise and the stage holds; recovery re-anchors when you return to your text.
- Measurements (pace, coverage, recoveries) come from your real voice. When no speech was captured, Rhetoric says so rather than inventing a score.
When the stage lags or refuses to move
- Confirm the mic is allowed and the input level moves when you speak (the stage shows a live level).
- Close other tabs or apps using the microphone; one mic, one listener, is the reliable setup.
- Speak the next line as written: after heavy improvisation the tracker needs a few matching words to re-anchor.
- Reload and rerun in desktop Chrome or Edge if you're on another browser.
- If nothing helps, switch the session to timed mode so the rehearsal still happens, and report the problem afterwards.
Names, numbers, and invented words are the hardest for any recognizer. A stumble on "Kowalczyk" is the engine, not your delivery.
If a session fails to save
The session report tells you when saving fails; note the reference code it shows and retry from a stable connection. Your speech itself is unaffected; session saves are separate from your script.
