Use the teleprompter in a video call
Present in Meet, Zoom, or Teams with the teleprompter open — and keep your call hearing you on every device.

Whether voice tracking can run during a call depends on the operating system, not on Rhetoric. Desktops share the microphone between apps; tablets and phones give it to one app at a time, so starting voice tracking there takes the mic away from your call — the call keeps running, but it stops hearing you.
On a laptop or desktop
- Voice tracking and your call can share the microphone; run both normally. Desktop Chrome or Edge is the most reliable combination.
- Echo cancellation filters the sound your own computer plays, so teammates' voices coming through your speakers won't normally advance your script; headphones make that bulletproof.
On a tablet or phone (one device)
- Open the teleprompter's prep screen; on these devices it warns that voice tracking takes over the microphone.
- Choose timed scroll — from that warning, or in the stage settings under Tracking. Timed scroll never opens the mic, so your call keeps hearing you.
- Set the scroll speed to your pace (90–180 words per minute) and present.
If you did start voice tracking mid-call, end the session, then tap unmute in the call app — some call apps stay silent until you toggle the microphone again.
Two devices: the best of both
Take the call on one device and run the teleprompter on another — a phone propped below your camera works well. Each device keeps its own microphone, so voice tracking and the call never compete.
